Mancers are rare and they are almost universally hated by the majority of society. Each faction has their own opinions of Mancers, some positive and accepting, others hateful and murderous. However, everyone sees them as dangerous, ticking time bombs that can go off at any moment. Most people see Mancers in the papers or hear about them via radio broadcasts; where they are known to be able to set buildings on fire with their minds, freeze dozens of people to death at a local marketplace, or throw a military convoy off the road. Everyone is aware of the destructive ability of Mancers as a concept, though few ever experience it firsthand. Mancers are more like a natural disaster than people. In fact, the only thing that sets a Mancer and a natural disaster apart, is that a Mancer has intent.
Perhaps the most recognized Mancer, the Pyromancer has control over matter and can superheat matter to produce explosions out of thin air. Pyromancy is by far the most destructive Mancie. There are countless reports of Pyromancers bombing offices, burning buildings, and scorching the earth until nothing remains but ash. It is easy for them to survive their own conflagrations, so they don’t hold back. A personality trait that seems quite common for Pyromancers. Untrained Pyromancers are not typically dangerous, as they can deal little more damage than a normal person with gasoline and determination. Experienced Pyromancers on the other hand are responsible for some of the most destructive terrorist acts known to humankind.
Cryomancers have extreme control over the world and themselves which manifests in the ability to freeze matter. These Mancers are able to survive the harshest frigid environments, turn others into human ice blocks, and shield themselves from nearly any assault. Several cases of Cryomancers freezing whole rooms of people have been documented. These horrible acts, and the slow, pained death they produce, are what strike fear into most. However, many who hunt Mancers fear the Cryomancer for their resistance and ability to survive where all others, even the most powerful Mancers of another discipline, would die. Perhaps it is this durability that gives many Cryomancers a disregard for the safety of others and even themselves.
Telekinesis gives the one using it unrefined manipulation of all physical objects within their senses. Telekinetics can “see” their surroundings in this way, creating a map of all objects in their line of sight. However, they cannot see through objects, a boon for all those trying to escape their wrath or contain them. Their jurisdiction over all matter is what makes them a terrifying foe and often cocky, as they always assume they’re in control. A Magnetisist may be defeated with preparation and planning that keeps the scenario free of metal objects, the Pyromancer doused in flame retardant gel, a Neuromancer overwhelmed with numbers. Telekenetics on the other hand can use a man’s own bones to cave in his skull. While untrained Telekenetics use their abilities as a shortcut, such as turning on a light without getting off the couch, experienced Telekinetics can toss trucks around as if they were toys and, if the reports are to be believed, even fly.
Magnetism allows for the manipulation of anything which is magnetic. These Mancers can feel metal objects and bend, twist, and move them at will, allowing for fine articulation of any ferromagnetic object. Experienced Magneticists can, reportedly, control non-ferromagnetic objects as well. The most powerful among Magneticists are even able to control the electrical fields surrounding electric appliances, powerlines, and other sources of pure energy. Upon first glance they seem rather benign compared to other Mancers, but that speculation is dangerous as Magneticists can propel a shard of metal through brick, conjure lightening at will, and melt steel with a touch. Unlike other Mancers, it seems to be their extraordinary senses, rather than their powers, that give Magneticists an air of constant superiority.
The power of bending and twisting flesh to one's will. That is Biomancy. People who go down this path lose their sense of physical limitation and tend to believe that they can overcome any obstacle by being clever with their, and others, bodies. Changing on the fly, Biomancers rapidly adapt to the task at hand. However, their power does not affect anything that is dead or never lived in the first place. Additionally, Biomancers must be touching their target in order to use any of their Biomantic abilities. Two boons for all those who face down these abominations. While their destructive capabilities are not as expansive as a Pyromancers or Cryomancers, they are some of the most dreaded Mancers due to the personal, twisted nature of their powers.
Necromancers can affect dead flesh, reanimating anything that is within their Death Sight. They are crafters and connoisseur of the decayed and rotten, giving excess death a purpose once more. Their powers can result in a horde of corpses risen again or gigantic monstrosities of fused flesh. Luckily for all living beings Necromancy cannot affect their flesh and the reanimation process takes a wealth of time. However, Necromancers who have honed their abilities to the highest degree are able to affect the very soul. Perhaps the most terrifying of all Mancers, Necromancers are by far the most persecuted and hated of all. While many other Mancers will work with others to their ends, Necromancers are often solitary and either overly attached or detached from the concept of life and death.
